What a difference a day makes! I'd been feeling slightly nervous about hitting the mountains again after so much flat, but I need not have worried, it was the first time in a long time that I had to use my small chainring though! The scenery more than made up for it, and the downhills. It's a lot more comfortable as well. Up hills and downhills change up your effort level and position on the bike. The constant flats of Kansas meant churning away in the same position for 5+ hours which got uncomfortable on your hands and bum.
Our Warmshowers host in Pueblo had recommended that we cycle the skyline drive if we were going to stay in Canon City. So, once Wed checked into our hotel, another excellent recommendation, we dumped our panniers and set out on the 7 mile round trip. It was well worth the extra effort with a stunning ride along a road on the ridge of a mountain. Amazing vows down to Canon City as well.
