Today was a short day, just the 26 miles to Damascus, which in all honesty was probably only 10 miles cycling uphill with 16 miles of coasting downhill!
I was planning on staying in Damascus for a day off but it's a big hiker town and the church hostel was full of Appalachian Trail hikers. It's very cliquey, they all have their trail names like "squirrel" and "two-step" , which they give themselves before even set foot on the trail. This seemed a bit like giving yourself your own nickname, a bit sad. So, I decided to ship out the next day and have another short day. I'm planning on staying in Breaks Interstate Park on the Kentucky border which is 80 miles so need to split into 2 shortish days anyway.
