Got up early to make sure I caught the 10am ferry to Orcas Island. Orcas is supposed to be the hilly island and it certainly lived up to its promise. One section, on Enchanted Forest Road, I had to push the bike up. I haven't had to do that since Kentucky!
Planned to camp at Moran State Park on the lake, however, they'd nicely put the hiker/biker sites a mile further up the hill past the lake, rubbish!
I'd hoped to climb Mt Constitution on the bike the next day, but it was so drizzly that I sacked that off for doing a hike round the lake. What's the point in cycling 2500ft vertical if there's no view at the top! I was delayed in my hike though when I realised everything under my thermarest was sodden. I haven't really had any campsites in the rain where my tent has been completely exposed so this was the first time this had happened. Worked out that it was due to a bit of my makeshift tarp groundsheet sticking out at the front. Water was running over the tarp but under the tent, essentially sitting my tent in a puddle. I dried it all out and cut my tarp smaller and am hoping that solves the problem!
