Today was a fairly epic rideride, much tougher than expected. The total ascent for the day according to the profile was about 3000ft but we definetly did way more than that!
We decided to take a 10 mile side trip to see the Royal Gorge. It certainly was impressive, I'm not sure we'd have gone though if we'd known how hilly the round trip would be! We ended up having to do most of the days climbing in the rain, finishing exhausted and soaked in Guffey.
Guffey is a very odd place! Like a living junkyard museum. Bill, who owns most of the junk, doesn't throw anything away and likes to make it into "art". Bill rode the first Bikecentennial and loves to have cyclists stay in the cabins. The first thing he does when you arrive is invite you into the Guffey garage and hand you a beer. The photos don't really do the weirdness of the place justice I'm afraid!
