We'd all been warned about the bridge out of town over the Mississipi river and into Missouri. It's really narrow with only one lane in each direction and no pavement. Locals were saying to cross it as early as possible.
We got there as a group of 6 so decided that as it was flat, then downhill, we'd take the lane as a group and just hold the traffic up, as we should be going fairly fast. We ended up getting a logging truck behind us who had an awesome driver. He hung back, put his hazards on and waited for us. We all waved and he gave us a honk when we'd all crossed. We'd made it into Missouri!
A lot more hills later, we'd made it to our destination of Farmington. We were staying in a TransAm cyclists hostel, which used to be the town jail. It's called Al's place as he set it up and ran it. When he died, the town has kept it going. This place might be fancier than my house! Comes complete with cycling memorabilia on the walls and bikes on the mezzanine.
